Anyone playing one of the 1-12 Line 6 modeling amps?

I am looking for an amp for practice and recording. It seems like good deals can be made on Line 6 and I've heard they are well suited for these jobs. Hoping that someone can give me their hands on opinions.

They make great bedroom amps, since you can get all the tones you want at reasonable levels. Heck, even Seymour's main amp is/was a Flextone 1-12.

I've found that generally speaking, from a recording standpoint... while they have a large pallette of sounds the line 6 amps don't sit in a mix very well.

Not for 'main' tracks anywhoo...

Small & with a somewhat 'twisted' midrange snarl...

Doesn't matter if it's clean or dirty. I can't say that anyone I know or have worked with has ever preferred say... a miced up line 6 emulation of a blackface deluxe or marshall next to the real deal.

They seem to hold up well for overdubs and ear candy parts though, tweaked out sounds or the faux leslie thing... they do THAT stuff pretty well.

I'd rather have one small amp that takes pedals well and a whole bunch of pedals to get different tones.

If you've got Dr Z and Mr. Bogner hanging 'round then I'd just use those... invest in an iso cab or build a booth if 'noise pollution' is an issue.
