Anyone Playing Through The New Satch Head?

I've been reading alot of great feedback on the Peavey Satriani head...I'm wondering if the hype is true or not in both live and practice settings? How does this head sound and what are you running it into? Very curious..

No. None of the local dealers have them yet.

I've heard from NAMM-goers that they're AMAZING. I would wait until the marketplace catches up with NAMM news. There will be reviews all over Harmony-Central.com.... not to mention this board.

I can't wait to try it. I've never been disappointed with Peavey amps. If Satriani is attaching his name to it, it'll have to AT LEAST be as good as an Ibanez or Dimarzios. Ha Ha. Peavey has some good engineers, and they probably reverse engineered Satch's Bogners to find out what makes a great, versatile amp happen.
I have no doubt it will be the coolest amp Peavey ever made.

Re: Anyone Playing Through The New Satch Head?

yeah, who knows, it may well be somewhat better than the classic 50 or the 5150. It would have to be. To be honest, I'm no fan of Satriani's tone, but I'll give one a spin, anyway.

To me, Peavey amps are the archetypal 'close, but no cigar' amp. But at least they are reasonably priced.

Re: Anyone Playing Through The New Satch Head?

Judging by the pics in the guitar mags, the thing has more circuit boards than my PC. That and the tubes (400 volts and lots of heat) are sitting on those little boards, along with having the control pots mounted on circuit boards also (bump into a knob or jack and you could break the whole board). Not very reliability-minded, but I'm sure they'll sound really cool while they last.

Re: Anyone Playing Through The New Satch Head?

I'm too lazy. Can someone dig up a picture of this amp? It's easier to talk about, if you can see it.

Ask . . . and ye shall recieve. :laugh2:

(Ooops . . . that first one was a bit large.)

Looks like it's laid out pretty well, with independent EQ's for each channel. I like the fact that they used heavy duty metal switches for everything, not the cheezy plastic toggles and tiny push buttons like the 5150 has. I'd bet money that it'll sound better than the 5150, XXX, and those other 3 channel heads Peavey came out with several years ago. Peavey is smart about one thing...they always use nice big transformers, so maybe this thing will sound pretty killer. You won't find them used, cheap for quite some time. I can't wait to see the reviews, once they ship these out to stores!

I don't really care for the big chrome piece on the front, but it looks like it would be dirt simple to change it to a black grill, like whats behind the chrome.

That would look sweet and aid in cooling. ;)
