Unfortunately I am not very familiar with the Deftones however, I have a little 59 in one of my teles and I love. I think it excels in the classic rock area. Many people describe it as similar to a mid gain paf, which I agree with. I think in your case having a good quality amp that does gain well and maybe a good gain pedal would be most important. I bet with those things in place the little 59 would sound really good.

Not sure what Deftones and Teles have to do with each other. Other than him having a signature Tele-type design. Love the band to death, though.
