anyone put triple shots in a strat

Re: anyone put triple shots in a strat

I vaguely recall that one member already tried this. I cannot remember who or how well the experiment succeeded. Taking the switch PCB out of the surround leaves it (and the associated cabling) vulnerable to physical damage.

yeah I did that, I have two Prail and a single coil in the middle, with two triple shots on the Prail. It's working

Re: anyone put triple shots in a strat

I tried it.

I did not successfully get the switches out of the ring, to inset them in the pickguard, though. I tried, but it seems like the sliding contacts of the linear switches kind of relied on the Triple Shot casing.

Even if they don't, it seemed that way, and I decided to just mount the ring onto the pickguard. That took a little bit of filing on the pickguard, so that the ribbon wire from the ring to the pickup would clear, but it was truly no big deal - I just filed a little notch about 1mm x 4 mm for the ribbon wire on the existing humbucker-sized rout on the pickguard.

Using the ring mounted to the pickguard like I did, the only X-factor was that I could not use a standard Stratocaster-style volume knob, and had to use a barrel-style knob. The numbered skirt on the Strat-style knob was too large and ran into the ring.

Here are some pictures of a Triple Shot ring mounted on a Stratocaster pickguard:

Below you can see the clearance issue with the ring and the Strat-style knob

And here below, you can see the remedy, of using barrel style knobs.

Re: anyone put triple shots in a strat

im probably wrong on this one, but couldnt you cut out little slots for the switches to come through and leave the ring on the underside of the pickguard, that way all you would see were the switches

i would think the pickguard would be too thick to have the switches go all the way through. i could be wrong

Re: anyone put triple shots in a strat

I believe it was Evan who said he simply cut the switch side of the ring off the TS and mounted it with the pickup's mounting screw right to the pickguard. May have been Frank.
