Anyone tried an Ibanez Satriani model

I don't recall ever reading about these guitars on the forum. Does anyone have any experience with the high end Satriani models from Ibanez? I haven't made up my mind for sure, but ever since I got my hands on a Hamer, my Wolfgang just doesn't do it for me anymore, and I'm thinking of selling it. I'd like to have one Floyd Rose guitar, and I'm wondering if the Satriani model would be a good choice. How thick are the necks on these, how good is the Ibanez Floyd Rose, and what would be a good price on the used market? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ryan

Its a very comfy axe imo, body isnt too heavy or bulky like an RG, neck isnt paper thin like an RG, 22 frets, sounds alright too if you like the pickups. The more expensive version has the better pups + better trem from memory.

he always has a few, heres examples (yours is a standard but you didnt say flametop/not :))

99. Peavey EVH Wolfgang Standard, Amber flametop. Wolfies have been moving out almost as fast as they come in and the demand continues, apparently due to the expiration of Eddie’s contract with Peavey but, moreover, many guitarists share my opinion that these are the finest production model guitars made in the $1500 and under price range. This beautiful stop-tail model is absolutely perfect. Other than the typical slight discoloration of the unfinished maple neck, it’s virtually flawless with no scratches or wear anywhere. Nice, even flame that looks great from any angle; nicely figured maple neck. Includes similarly clean EVH case and is a good investment for the collector or player at $850.

97. Peavey EVH Wolfgang Standard Goldtop, early model Pat. Pending from Jan ‘98, nicely figured neck with super sleek broken in feel, arched maple top with ivory binding, Peavey Floyd Rose with D-Tuna, overall nice shape except for a two small finish touch ups (beside tremolo and top/left headstock). Not recommended for the discriminating collector but for the player, frets are perfect and is an absolute killer player—and player’s priced at $875(HOLD-Bryce 8/17). Includes case, factory build sheet, trem, tools.

98. Peavey EVH Wolfgang Standard, 2002, AS NEW, beautiful Black Cherry finish over tightly flamed maple top. I’ve been low on Wolfgang Standards for a month or two and a few are starting to roll in. This one is absolutely gorgeous and not a scratch anywhere. These guitars set up and sound as good as anything on the market and this one’s no exception. All the great features including flamed carved maple top, birdseye maple neck, pearloid tuners, D-tuna, licensed Floyd-Rose, etc. Eddie’s contract with Peavey is about up and that’s driving up the prices—and availability—of these fine guitars. Grab ‘em while you can. If you’re getting tired of seeing these at $1099 “reserve not met”, here’s a beautiful one without the hassle—and satisfaction guaranteed—for $999

the first one is a hardtail though so bear that in mind

i'd love one but i can't raise that kinda cash atm :(

Re: Anyone tried an Ibanez Satriani model

I played the 2002 model I believe, the one just before his new one. It was alot better in my opinion. The axe had really decent tone, fast neck, awesome paint, respectable tremolo bridge, and it was fairly cheap. ($800 CDN for one at my local shop)

I dont know about his new one, I personally dont like the look of it as much, but Im sure its a pretty playable axe.

Re: Anyone tried an Ibanez Satriani model

i had one JS100 (transparent red) 3 years ago, and was very satisfied with the axe...screwed a couple duncan sets:

JB trembucker bridge + Jazz model neck
Ducan Distortion trembucker bridge + 59' model neck

the first one seemed a little shrill, but the second one nailed my tastes...
about the guitar, i like the body shape and neck a lot (the neck is not the quality of a jackson or a RG prestige, but it´s a very fast and confortable one)...very good tremolo bridge, not the new ones but very solid (new edge bridges and old pro ones are the best imo). the guitar is pretty beautiful dude, the finish is huge, and by the price it´s a very good option...it´s a good medium/high quality guitar....but if you save a little more you can buy one RG prestige that is a better guitar...

btw i sold it 1 1/2 year ago to buy a pro one (which i have sold a couple weeks ago to buy another pro one xD)

Re: Anyone tried an Ibanez Satriani model

I pluged in, and played the high end model at the music store. It was ok, nothing spectacular. If you want a good shredding guitar with a trem, I would suggest either a Jackson Soloist, or a G&L Invader. Better wood, origonal Floyd trems, Seymour Duncan pups, and good low action. :)

Re: Anyone tried an Ibanez Satriani model

the js2000 has a stationary floyd rose i think, isnt that weird and defeats the purpose of a floyd which is to change pitch?
