Judging by the website publicity, this is an authorised replica built in Indonesia in the Cort factory.

Obvious giveaway Cort features include;
Agathis body (visible on the Walnut Satin finish)
Powersound pickup
(almost certainly) Cortek electronics
generic bridge and machineheads

The line taken by the strings over the nut towards the machinehead posts suggests a narrow FJB spacing. The fingerboard radius and edge tumbling profile look very Cort.

I would expect the playability to be okay. Is it good enough to justify buy one of these and modifying it rather than simply buying a Sterling By Musicman 'Ray models?

I would just keep my eyes out for a real SUB.

The only "real" EBMM S.U.B. instruments that I tried were disappointing. I blame this squarely on the Poplar body material. Also, the sensation of paint rather than oiled wood against the fretting hand rather spoiled the playing experience.

I ought to point out that I own a pair of US-made EBMM Stingray basses. This thread is to canvass for opinions on the build quality and playability of the MiI instruments.

I have probably worked on enough Cort guitars and basses to know what to expect. A guy in my town who aspires to own a 'Ray style bass but cannot afford anything MIA. He and I were hoping that upgrading the authorised budget model might be the solution.

I had a MusicMan Sterling (Not Sterling by Musicman). Black with a Maple neck. Beautiful bass, my only complaint was the body was way to small. Especially for me, 6'1" @ 190lbs. It looked like I was holding a toy bass on stage.

If they maintained that smaller body in the Sterling by Musicman line, just one thing to keep in mind.

I will, eventually, own and use a big Stingray on stage. But for now my SMB4a equip'd precision with have to suffice the brightness & clank.
