Anyone try different speakers in a Marshall AVT series combo amp?

Snake Aces

Singlecut Slut
I have an AVT50. I am pretty pleased with it for what I use it for. However, it seems when I record through it's Emulated DI output, I get a much better tone and sound.

So has anyone tried new speakers in one, or does anyone have any ideas?

Just taking a guess......Your tone when recorded doesnt have that fuzzy/sizzly high end that you hear out of your cab?

If so, I'm guessing that the speaker emulated output has a hi-cut filter built in to it. (something i think ALL guitar amps should have anyway).

To get my high gain sounds coming out of my amp to sound like they do recorded, I run a BOSS GE-7 in the FX loop. I Bring 6.4k down by 15db, 3.2k down by 7k, drop some over the lower frequencies a but to get rid of the muddyness, then turn the treble up on the amp.

This kills the fuzzyness on my distortion effects, and makes them sound like the CD's I listen to.

I do that with my BOSS GE-7, but i would like to try a better EQ to shape / cut crappy frequencies. Maybe a 31band rackmount will do it, the i'm not sure they're designed for guitars. Who knows, anyone care to add to this?

I like the eq idea. I wonder if some old rack mount eq's aren't going of cheap these days. But the Boss eq is a good place to start. If you're near a Guitar Center pick one up and try it out. If it doesn't solve the problem, return before 30 days. Probably better than a speaker change.

Trying the eq seems easier to me than changing the speaker. If that doesn't work then try the speaker.
