Anyone use .009's tuned flat with success?

I'm having problems picking through the low E string. I'm using a .010-.046 gauge and it always feels like I can't get the pick to move through that fat, low E string. I did order a few sets of GHS 9.5's to .044, but was going to ask if anyone has used .009's while tuned a half-step flat (I tune to E-flat).

I'm thinking that wouldn't work too well because the strings would feel too sloppy being as how they are thinner and lighter and plus I'm tuned a half-step down.

Yeah, the less tension on the string the more likely it is to not be in the same spot the second time you try to pick it. Honestly, you may be able to fix your problem just by learning how to play Misirlou.

It's kind of hard to picture what problem you are having. What exact issue are you having with the E string?

I play my Ace Frehley LP's with .009's tuned down a half step all the time. 24 3/4 scale, light strings, lower tuning no problem.

As do millions of guitar players.

Been playing .008's on a Malmsteen Strat project even.

I just put on a set of 9.5's on both my Strats. Now I just need to try 'em out. But I'm done fucking around with a .046. It's simply too thick and fat at least for me.

The strings are great! They feel wonderful under my fingers and it's easier to pick through the low E. I'm thankful that they are on the market. Highly recommend them.
