Anyone use the POD Bass? and other Bass amp questions.

I may be starting to play bass for a friends group. The singer has a rig I can borrow, but I'd like to eventually have my own. Does anyone use the POD for bass? I thought about purchasing the Bass expansion, and then investing in a power amp, and a 4x10 cabiniet.

Of course that may be a temporary fix. If we start doing any substantial gigging I would want to have quality gear.

What are some good quality bass amps, cabs, and even basses that tend to get sold for cheap on the used market?

i owned the bass pod xt and thought it was a good piece of kit. as someone who likes to tinker and experiment with sounds it's great as i offers a lot. but it can be overkill if you are looking for just a few sounds. i wound up getting rid of the bass pod and bought the sansamp bass driver di. i can't say enough about this. it's a preamp/di/overdrive/tube amp emulation. it's not digital, all analog. it's not too expensive but is a pro piece of gear. lots of famous guys use it. i don't have a bass amp so i use it as a preamp and tone shaper.

as for basses, i think there is a recent thread about this in the guitar forum. mexi fenders (precisions and jazzes), the fender hwy 1 series, and ibanez all make good basses for not too much dough. the geddy lee jazz feels really good and is usually about $600 new. so you should be able to get a pretty good deal on it used. looks like my answers were heavily weighted towards fender. i'm sure others will chime in soon with more choices. good luck!

My bassist uses a pod xt live and the variax bass.....he couldn't be happier. Its easy to set up and he has a myriad of different tones to work with. Cool rig.

Cool. What kinda cab/amp does he use or does he run direct?

Direct out for front sound and into a crown power amp into a swr 4X10 for stage sound. So many cool tones, perfect for the cover band thang.

What frequencies would you push to get the bass to stand out? Bass and Treble?

I purchased the bass exp pack for my POD XT and love it when I play bass at church, a lot of the presets and amps sound great. As with any multi efx unit it can take a little time to find "your" sound but with Line 6's edit program its actually relitively easy. "so easy a caveman can do it" to steal that gecko commercial.

I play direct to the board with bass. For variety I change the pickup selector.
