Anything known about the fretless that David Gilmour plays on "Hey you"?

Something Cool
"Hey you" from The Wall has a great fretless bass under it. I mean it sounds really great.

Is anything known about the specific bass used there? I realize that many of those earth-shattering notes are open strings so the fretless part doesn't really matter, but still.

I read it is actually Tony Levin playing, who's a Music Man guy it seems, but that's probably some endorsement BS from after 1979. Bit difficult to navigate that space.

Gilmour also plays fretless on the album Animals. Zemaitis, methinks.

You guys mean Roger Waters? Or did David Gilmour actually play some bass on those albums?

Gilmour recorded bass parts on several songs from the album Animals. The fast plectrum octaving stuff on Sheep and the fretless passages on Pigs (Three Different Ones). On tour, Snowy White played the parts. One easy way to spot the difference is that Waters uses tapewound strings on his Rickenbacker and flatwound strings on Fender. Gilmour uses roundwound strings.

It seems that Andy Bown, he of Status Quo fame, played the bass on the live Wall shows...

Bown played bass guitar in the surrogate band that opens the show and, thereafter, whenever Waters concentrated on vocals. At other times, Bown played keys. At the close of the show, Outside The Wall, Bown played acoustic guitar. I know, 'cos I was there.
