Placed a bid on ebay and ended up being the only bidder. Kinda dumb.

ROHS designation? Usually means Chinese or Euro origin, doesn't it?

Re: Anyway these are a one off or otherwise custom shop j-bass pickups?

Yeah, I'm sorry but ROHS is an Asian budget pickup company. I tried a Strat set from them that I got for free. They weren't great enough to remember anything particular about them, but they weren't bad enough to write home about either.

RoHS is not a pickup manufacturer! RoHS is a manufacturing standard. If you have a RoHS sticker it means that the pickups are produced to meet this standard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restriction_of_Hazardous_Substances_Directive. Even the new stickers for Dimarzio and Duncan have RoHS stamps to show they're compliant.

If they were Duncans they should have a alpha-numeric code that matches something in the catalog and if they were custom shop you would have a label with a signature. I'm not sure those are duncan pickups you would need to measure them with a multimeter to get a resistance reading and see if it's close to anything in the Duncan line.

Sorry, brain fart. Now I'm trying to remember what those pickups actually were...

Looks like antiquities and antiquities II are the only ones are pretty close to my readings. Hmmm. Not those, since they aren't aged. I've noticed the actual antiquities and some other jbass pups have that black (foam? ) piece with the signature on them. I don't have any such foam piece. I guess it comes off?

That is NOT what RoHS is! Very simply stated, the RoHS stamp means that they can be sold in the EU.

I would be surprised if Duncans and most other pickups are not marked RoHS somewhere on the product or on the packaging.

Re: Anyway these are a one off or otherwise custom shop j-bass pickups?

P.S. I wish I had noticed those, because I probably would have outbid you. I am looking for a staggered J Bass neck pickup around "vintage" output.

There was another set from the same seller That went for about the same price, except they were labeled antiquities & they had all the correct stickers on the bottom.

$60 seemed like a good deal, but I know next to nothing about bass pickups except that I Iike them to be low output.

Most importantly (or not)... Any idea if they genuine duncans?

Not quite...although it's almost certainly an asian noname pickup under the sticker

ROHS is some foreign equivalent of a Cali Prop 65 sticker or some such nonsense concerning regulations over toxic crap...all it means is it's something made fairly recently, in compliance with EU regs that kicked in in 2003

Just to make it clearer: RoHS is a standard to avoid unnecessary harmful substances in consumer products that will be waste in the future. It helps to keep our environment and the soil clear of substances like lead, mercury and cadmium.
The only known to me adverse effect is we need a somewhat higher temperature to solder leadfree. I think thats worth it.

Ok, so I sent pics to the custom shop and the verdict is inconclusive. This is what they said.

"There is really not enough to go on for me to confirm these as a set of our custom shop jazz bass pickups.
Having said that though, we do use the push back cloth wire like these pickups have and the tape around the coils looks similar to what we use. And the workmanship looks pretty solid, so it's a strong possibility that they are ours"

Makes me feel a little better. I'm only out 60 bucks and I'm putting them in a 200$ bass, so not much lost here.

I appreciate everyone's help.
