aph-1/JB Pots.

Ok so im replacing the pots in my Yamaha AES-620
(2 volume 1 tone pot). I was thinking CTS 250k Volume for APH-1 and 250k volume for JB and then 500k for Tone pot. Does this sound like a good idea for achieving classic rock /GnR styles of sound. Also whats a good place for ordering CTS pots that ship to canada with a reasonable shipping rate. I dont really wanna justify paying 48 US for shipping from warmoth for a total of 25$ worth of stuff.

I love that guitar! The JB just sings in there, and I'll bet replacing the stock neck pickup did wonders. If I were you I'd just leave the pots as they are right now. If not, go with 500k across the board.

Re: aph-1/JB Pots.

Yep the Aph-1 sounds so much better than stock neck pickup. But leaving them in is Not really in the question as they are pretty much dead. The pots are very scratchy and cut out which is no good. Also i heard that 500k pots for volume make the jb and Aph-1 harsher sounding. I deffinatly dont want the JB to be anymore treblier than it is. I already did enough pole piecing adjustments to fix that.

Re: aph-1/JB Pots.

CTS is actually a Canadian company, you should be able to find a resaler fairly easily. Try electronics supply companies.

For me I'd put a 250K for the tone and JB's volume. Put the 500K on the Alnico 2 Pros volume. That would get you a bit more bite. It's no secret the JB can be top heavy in certain guitars, this will help you guard against it.

I would put a 500k wwith the APH and a 250k with the JB

Re: aph-1/JB Pots.

yeah - audio taper respond in a way that the human ear perceives as 'smoother' ... it is logarithmic instead of linear ... higly recommended for guitar applications
