I have a Carvin ST300 neck through guitar that plays like butter but sounds like a glacier.
I've been battling it's tone for a while now and am looking for a suitable neck pickup.
Guitar Specs:
maple neck through
alder body wings
ebony fretboard (24 frets, nickel med. jumbo frets)
double humbucker
1 volume
1 tone
Floyd Rose tremolo with gigantic brass block
The guitar currently has a DiMarzio Liquifire in the neck and a Tone Zone in the bridge. Believe it or not, this guitar is still bright with these pickups.
Liquifire has great clarity to it, but lacks warmth. I think it's way too focused to sound warm and organic in this guitar. I'll probably try it in my basswood JS1000.
My favorite neck pickup is the PAF Pro. The PP is supposed to be brighter than the Liquifire, so I have not tried one in this guitar yet.
I was thinking about all of the neck pickups that I have used in the past. I had an APH-1n and 59n in a PRS McCarty. They both sounded too warm or dark in this guitar.
I'm wondering if one of these pickups would help me out a bit.
I'm looking for that PAF Pro warmth, sparkly but warm cleans, singing sustain, lots of harmonics, and sounds thick and chunky with gobs of distortion.
I have a Custom Custom that I'll use in the bridge.
Music played will be anything from Ten Years After to Faith No More to Incubus. Lots of cleans, lots of distortion, lots of sustain!
