APH-1, Seth Lover, or '59n in bridge? Opinions

I just found this forum and I love it. I believe the APH-1 is what I'm looking to place in my Steinberger. It only has the bridge position available as there is no neck position for a pickup. Most of the reviews I've read say that it is good for neck but not much said for the bridge position. Do you think it would be a decent pickup there or should I go with the neck model in the bridge position? I love an Allan Holdsworth type tone (singing sustain), although I've heard he actually uses a pickup that is closest to a '59 neck in the bridge and not his own signature humbucker(too hot). I just love the sound clips I've heard of the APH-1 as well as the the SethLover. Right now I am confused whether to get the APH-1, the Seth Lover, or '59n. Any opinions would be appreciated. (Especially like Lew and Scott F's advice). :nervous:

welcome to the forum!!

you want a bridge position pup, not a neck. the bridge models are warmer with more output to balance with the inherent tone of that position.
the aph is a vintage output, warm toned pup that will probably work well in your guitar

I'd order something from the Duncan Custom Shop. Call MJ on monday and ask her. There may even be an Allan Holdsworth pickup that Seymour has already developed.

Your guitar has only one pickup? No neck pickup?

The '78 would be very cool in such a guitar I would think. That's an alnico 2 Custom Shop pickup Seymour wound for EVH.

Thanks guys for the advice. Yes, the guitar has only 1 pickup, just bridge position. Currently I have the AH-1 Allan Holdsworth model in it, but its output is too high. (I've read it is a hotter JB). I will probably order the APH-1 from Lew and boost it with a Barber Launchpad.

Welcome to the Forum!

My personal preference would be the Seth, followed by the '59. They're similar, but the '59 has an alnico-5 magnet, which will be slightly brighter. The Seth has an initial bite to it's attack, then these great mids kick in. I have Seths in a '61 LP/SG reissue and they sound great. I cna;t speak for the Steinberger, since it's been quite a while since I've played one.
