APH neck vs. covered PG neck?

I'm looking for that warm singing Alnico II Pro neck tone with a little more stringiness to it. Do you think the Pearly Gates with a cover can get close to this?

The cover adds next to nothing.

You could use a PG with a 250K pot. That might do it for ya.

i like the pgn just the way it is. for a smoother sound i roll back the tone control a few notches.
