Hi, I just have a question. I have a strat that I've been trying to tweak for so long. It has 2 single coils and a humbucker in the bridge. I've tried a JB, custom custom, and now it has the aph alnico II in the bridge.
I liked the custom custom, but the tone was just a bit to focused and seemed to get a bit mushy on the bigger strings. The JB I tried didn't have the bottom end and also didn't have a clear high end. Very focused like the custom custom just thinner and emphasised the upper mids. Next I tried the alnico II humbucker and I like the overall tone, but the bottom end is almost non existant. My strat is weird in that it's made of some type of mahogany, but is the body thinner than a normal strat. I'd say it feels more like an SG.
The bottom end is weak and it tends to kill a bit of the upper midrange.
I was wondering how different a 59 bridge would sound? Would it still have the midrange of an alnico II humbucker, yet have better bottom end and wider open highs? Would I be able to roll the tone down to achieve an alnico II like tone if I wanted?
Right now, I'm running my strat through a 1977 Marshall master volume tube head (pre JCM 800) through a Marshall 4x12 with the top loaded with celestion vintage 30's and the bottom with Celestion g12t75's. My second amp is a Laney VC30 2 x 12 combo (poor man's Vox AC30 heh)
I'm looking for a traditional output pickup. I find the marshall grinds better with a pickup within the 7 - 9k range.
Thanks,
Tom
