Are all current Gibson P90's the same?

There's someone local selling a Gibson P90 that supposedly came out of a Gibson custom shop guitar. However, would it be an identical pickup to one that comes on say, a current production LP Jr?

I think so. Just looking around online shows that they (at least) advertise that they are P90s. Usually if a company does anything better to them they will say.

Yeah, the historic reissues get the same P90s are the rest of USA Gibsons.

Shame, really. P90s really benefit from loosening up the pickup a bit and use a hand-made one.

FWIW, I have four modern Gibson P90's and I love them. I am sure there are "better" ones, but the Gibsons don't leave me wanting for anything.

what magnets did they use in the past and what are they using now?

Re: Are all current Gibson P90's the same?

Alnico 5 now & has been since the early 60's
Before then i believe it was alnico 3 ,Some might say alnico 2
But i'm not a fan of 2 alnico2 magnets in a p-90

How would you describe the diffence in tone between the 2's and 3's? I think the PhatCats have the AN2's
