for 200 bucks, thats a hell of a deal. Just as long as its solid.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

I would almost wager to say that they are the same or nearly the same as Marshall 1960 cabs. 1960 cbas are GREAT cabs!

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

I have a JCM900 1960A, and its a good cab, I might be off on this, but I found them really punchy in the mids but a little loose in the buttom end, lows are a little muddy. Could be better for heavy p.m. riffs but great for anything "shred" related. But, it could be that I just did not dial in everything perfect before the signal gets to the cab.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

That's a great deal. A couple of weeks ago, I sold an empty JCM900 1960A cabinet for $200.

I don't really like the G12T-75 speakers though. That does not mean the speakers are lousy - it's a matter of taste.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

Damn, that's a steal. Grab it. If you don't like the speakers, change 'em. What makes or breaks a cab most of the time is the speakers used. The stock 75's are ok, not my favorite though. I prefer the Classic Lead 80's myself.

...BIG +1!...A speaker swap will do wonders! Hell of a good deal. BTW, is it an "A", or a "B" ?

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

for $200.......BUY IT ASAP!

the pawn shops around here have crappy amps and guitars. :(

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

Buy it ASAP, because someone else will if you don't.

The 900's are the same as the 800's, only they have a stereo jack plate.
The G75T's aren't bad, although they're voiced for crunchy metal tones. A zillion metal bands used that speaker. Personally, I think those cabs sound really good with a crisscross of Vintage 30's/G75T's.

If I were you, I'd bring a drill with you to the pawnshop, and tell them you'll buy the cab if you can unscrew the back panel and make sure it has Celestions in it. Anytime you're dealing with pawnshops or druggie musicians, it's a good idea to check that stuff, because there's always the chance they loaded it with junky hi fi speakers or something.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

Joe, are you suggesting that Druggie musicians do not treat their equipment properly, or WORSe, that they are dishonest?

What a prejudgemental thing to say about a junkie.

BTW this post convinced me to buy a JCM900 cab cheap, because I need something that I can let get beat to hell in LA venues.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

I'd take a meter into the store, and make sure you have the correct impedence, (about 14-15 ohms) for all ya know one or more speakers may be blown, also, if you have the chance, take the back off and make sure that someone didn't pull the celestions out of it, and replaced with something else.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

I payed double that for a JCM900 1960A cab a few months ago and I still thought it was a good deal. I've seen em go for $600. Where's that pawn shop again?;)

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

Do it! When you get it check...A guy on another forum of mine just bought an EMPTY cab for $240.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

I have been offered a MArshall JCM800 4x12" 400w Base cabinet, 1982 model.

For 300 bucks, is that a good buy? Great condition, and what speakers are in it?

Sorry for hijacking a little bit :)

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

What it has now is anyone's guess. What it would have come with would have been G12-80s - the heavy magnet version of the G12-65 (NOT the same thing as the current Classic Lead 80, similar, but the older ones used a bass cone).

Great cab, great speakers.
