i'm thinking about getting the metal, classic and Fx for $99. Those who have them did you think it was worth it?

Yes.

Well, at least the Metal Shop pack was. Never picked up the Collector Classics pack, though.

FX Junkie adds some pretty darn useful stuff too; the 2 boosts I usually use - boost+eq and Vetta Juice - are in there.

Prices aren't bad and if I'm not mistaken I think you can get a refund within 30 days if you don't like them ? Or at least you used to be able to when I had a toneport.

That said, I really didn't find the ones I tried to be all that useful simply because while they are new models and what have you, its still all coming from the same unit and its still got the overall line6 vibe for good or bad.

So if a POD XT has 5, 50 or even 500 models and effects really doesn't matter because I just didn't see them as making that huge of difference or getting me things I couldn't with tweaking other patches.

Its not like a new model is going to magically get rid of the A/D converters, produce an analog audio path with true tube warmth and output saturation etc, know what I mean ?

For the price of a model pack I'd say your better off getting a tube pre of some sort, even a cheap one like one of those Art MP lines. Putting one of those before your audio card when recording really did warm up the tone a bit and was money well spent.

if you're getting close to what you want with the pod, but not quite there yet, it's probably going to be in one of the feature packs. i bought both of them with my pod and used the diezel and marshall more frequently than the default models.

To respectfully disagree, if your getting close with the POD but not there, all the model packs in the world probably won't change that because the issue is the POD itself.

I'm not knocking it, I've owned the original, the v2.0 and the XT as well as the Toneport but no matter what model I had, it was never fully there.

If the POD doesn't get you that last bit your after then you've got to stop using the model and use the actual gear the model is trying to emulate

Re: are the line 6 packs worth it?

Pod will never get you all the way there. I would never dream of using it for anything final... but having said that I dig the metalshop waaaay more than the stock hi-gain amps.

Re: are the line 6 packs worth it?

Yess
Diezel ,Bogner ,Big Bottom and 5150 patches are absolutely killer. There is no comparison!
The Metal pack is great!

Re: are the line 6 packs worth it?

thanks for all the input I pretty much decided I was going to get all 3 but just wanted to hear what others thought. Thanks again

Re: are the line 6 packs worth it?

I sold my metalshop pack - didn't dig any of them as much as the stock Treadplate Dual model.

I'm still considering getting Metal Shop for my toneport UX-1 but like you i found out that the treadplate dual is quite a killer model and don't know if it will be wirth the extra money for the pack..
