Are there differences between magnets from different companies pickups?

Like if i were to put an A5 magnet from a gibson pickup into a seymour duncan custom to make it into a custom5, would it be the same as putting in an A5 magnet from a seymour duncan pickup...or are there different strengths or types that different companies use?

Yes. Each magnet supplier has thier own way of doing things and one supplier's formula for alnico 2, 3, 4, or 5 could be slightly differant from another's. Lindy Fralin has told me he can hear a diff between alnico 5 polepieces for Strat pickups made by differant magnet makers. Lew

I honestly doubt you'd notice any difference. A couple people have used Gibson magnets in Duncan pickups, and they couldn't tell any difference.

The reason i ask is because ill probably be buying a CC bridge for my les paul and ill have two burst bucker pros spare then with A5 magnets, and i was planning to put one in the CC if i wanted a change and make it into a C5....would this be accurately a C5 or wouldnt it be totally faithful to the seymour C5?

It'd probably be slightly differant but not enough that you shouldn't just give it a try and see if you like it. Lew

I plan on putting a generic A5 in my Custom to get a C-5 as well. I don't think this is anything to lose sleep over...although I probably will! :laugh2:
