Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

I think I've fallen in love with the single-coil sound for leads. But sometimes I yearn for that smooth, fat, humbucker sound. At least I have both! :)

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

i like the chunk & higher output of humbuckers.

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

I like my humbuckers. Strat single coils are good for some clean stuff, and P-90s are fun sometimes, but If I had to choose one, it would be a humbucker.

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

I thought that I was a diehard humbucker guy, but my Tele has changed that idea forever. Im just able to get such an incredible array of tones from Tele singles. I am also glad that I have both to choose from. They both have their respective place and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

I think I need to re-say what I said earlier. I'm not anti-single coils... but in a lot of situations, they seem too thin for me. I prefer my tone's to be beefy and "ARG!" instead of twangy and, "ah," ya know? That's what the pickups sound like to me (in general) now... I'll use the single's in some situations, like to balance out the "ARG" to a "arh" and make the tone less abbrassive... but, I rarely ever use a single coil without a humbucker with it. That's just me. I only have two electric guitars, but, only one of them have single coils and out of my next three planned purchases (a tele custom, a tele and a les paul custom) 1/3 of the pickups are single coils... don't know if I'll be changing that... I'm think in the tele I'm planning I'm getting, I'll put a lil '59 in it....

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

I like EMG81, the most ballbustin pickup on this planet.

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

I have a Hum, Sin, Hum layout but I'm a humbucker guy all the way.

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

I think it's unanomous: people love humbuckers. And, I must agree...

I'll admit singles probably have the best clean tone, but add distortion to a single like an MT-2 and it just sounds gross....all bassy, twangy and lacking the power of a good Duncan Distortion or JB...

I'm humbucker all the way :butkick:

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

I like humbuckers for the bridge. Fat and powerful. Singlecoils sound too brittle in the bridge position IMO. Except for P90s, which i like.
But for the neck position, i like singlecoils better. A bright humbucker works nicely in the neck too.

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

i like both;
hum for heavy/pop rock sounds/riffs and solos.

single for blues/jazz stuffs and solos too. :D

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

It depends on the sound I'm going for at the moment. For Country, I'll use a single coil for about everything. When I'm in church, I'll have to use hummers and singles; depending on the song. I like, however, the clarity, twang, sparkle, and ability to cut through of the singles. I like the power, meatiness, and smoothness of the hummers.

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

Singles all the way. Strat or Tele (or in my case, EBMM Albert Lee) straight into a Fender amp. Pow!

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

I've always been a humbucker fan. I'm in the process of deciding on a Strat, but will still probably get a Hotrails for the bridge. Singles are cool for clean, but they just don't cut it for drop-C tuned, heavily distorted chunky stuff :)

Re: Are you a Humbucker or Single-Coil lover?

For chords and rythym: single coils. Antiquity II Strat or Antiquity Tele

For solos a bridge humbucker is fun! 59B or 59TB

I don't like mixing the two types on one guitar tho...

I love both! If I had to choose one it would be single coild. But fortunately I don't have to choose. Different tools for different jobs.
