Aria PE DLX what pick ups?

Hi
I want to replace the standard pick ups with some new ones, the guitar is Les Paul shaped and has a Alder body with Maple cap, Rosewood finger board and gold plated hardware. Can't decide between the sets that Seymour does, JB and Jazz set, the Slash set and i think the Pearly gates.
Anyone got any other suggestions? I play classic rock on this guitar, and want a fuller, more sustaining sort of sound.
Cheers

Re: Aria PE DLX what pick ups?

JB's are hit or miss in warm woods, and don't have an impressive record in LP-type guitars. Yes, they can sometimes work well in them, but they can also sound awful. JB's are a very hot PU (16K) that were designed for a Tele, and are very picky about the woods they like (since no two pieces of wood are identical, therein comes the hit-or-miss part).

PAF's are great in LP's, as many members here will tell you. PG's, Seth's, and A2P's are popular here in LP's (all have warm A2 magnets, which have a lot of mids and a somewhat rounded high end), as are '59's (which has a bright A5 mag, with scooped mids and a sharper high end). You can mix and match any of these. An A2P bridge (or Slash) and a PG neck may be what you want.

Alder with Maple cap? Sounds a bit on the brighter side of wood choices... I'd go with an UOA5 modded '59 set with 500K pots and .022 Vitamin Q caps.

A better but more expensive alternative is a stock Seth Lover set.

The Slash set is good, but I like the Seth Lover better.

The PG set is sounds great in the right guitar, but it may be a bit too "brightish" in yours. Which is no deterrent for you to get'em and play with the tone controls... confused yet...? ;)

I don't recommend any A5 loaded p'up for your guitar.

yeah very confused.
The Tone wizzard suggests JB's which is why i was thinking of them.
Slash set sounds good though, and they look cool in Zebra

Re: Aria PE DLX what pick ups?

just ordered a set of Seymour 59's in Zebra:1:

Great! Now you need to buy some magnets from AddictionFx and you'll be all set. ;)

Get 2xA2s, 2xUOA5s, 1xA4 and 1xA8.

Try the 2x UOA5 mod first. Then try my personal favorite mag combo, the A4 neck A8 bridge and last but not least, 2xA2. Then tell us what combo worked best for you and why.

HTH,

Sweet. '59s are great pups. I have a PE Elite (the same guitar with a mahogany body and neck, I think) and had a '59 set in it for a while. They kicked ass.

Glad you got sorted, anyway. :beerchug:
