seen one at the store today and i was wondering, are they any good? i just took a quick look at it cos the celestion V30 caught my eye sticking out the back and it was an all tube amp, didnt play it though. looked like an old radio in front with the VU output meter. hehe. it was a 1x12 combo. i think it was 45 something .. or 75, i dont remember =P

anyone know them? it's a tad late here and i'd apretiate a couple of links so i can check them out later.

thx for any input

What you saw was most probably an ashdown peacemaker 40 (1x12) or 60 (2x12) combo.
They are very versatile - good warm clean channel and top gain channel, reverb, lead boost switch. They are all valve. They also do a 60 watt head version.
I have tried one out a couple of times and been very impressed, but reading around i get the feeling there are reliability issues:

here a link to their site:

Do not confuse these combos with the very expensive boutique 50 and 100 watt heads, also called peacemakers, that ashdown also do.

Re: Ashdown amps? tell me bout em

They really are a good compromise if you want good clean and high gain sounds - the clean isnt quite a fender bit still very good, the gain isnt quite a marshall but also still very good. I also see the peavey classic 30 in the same way, although the classic 30 does sound very different
The ashdown has more gain then the peavey, and is probably a bit warmer, but the peavey has a bit more bite, and is more middy.
It is UK made, and is a very well respected amp here and got good reviews. I actually have a review in a guitar mag, which says it sounds great, but that if you are playing live, get the 60 rather than 40 watt as the 40 watt struggles a bit when turned up

I think they sound great, but I passed up a great deal on one, because of all the problems people were having with them. Check out the Harmony Central reviews for starters. If I remember right a lot of guys were having the same problems, which usually indicates a design flaw

Re: Ashdown amps? tell me bout em

I have an Ashdown bass amp (that I havent played for 2 years..guitar takes up all my time now). The bass amp is the sweetist thing I ever played thru. No problems with it at all.

Ive never tried the guitar amps, as noone around here carries them. But, I have read the HC reviews and agree that they tend to break down. Maybe they have fixed the problem?

Re: Ashdown amps? tell me bout em

What I find amazing is that people have 10x the amt of problems with Peavey products, yet no one complains ..

Re: Ashdown amps? tell me bout em

the amp had an eagle or something on the front.. black red-ish.

just checked out their site it was the fallen angel 40.

tend to break down how? heat issues? circuitry issues? heat issues can be dealt with with, but if there's something wrong in the circuitry thats beyond my capability =P

will look into them when i have some amp money scraped together. thanks for the info guys

I have one sound great and good value for money at about £429 I have a Peacemaker 40 and the only thing I'd change it for is a Cornford Harlequin
