Ashdown Peacemaker

Anyone tried these amps? My local shop has a used 40W 1x12 combo, and a 60W head with a 4x12 for a little more. I don't know if there's any difference between the combo and the head, I can't seem to find any info on them (I think they're discontinued.)
I'm going to try them out this weekend, I just wanted to check with you guys if you had any opinion on them first.

Re: Ashdown Peacemaker

I played an Ashdown head and 4x12 not long ago but I'm not sure of the model. I liked the amp, it was pretty dark and a little mushy not tight like say a VHT which I tried next - the VHT had better definition also.

Re: Ashdown Peacemaker

I do believe they have been discontinued. I toyed with getting the 60w 2x12 before I got my TSL. Good value for money, but I don't know about any reliability issues

Re: Ashdown Peacemaker

Yeah, I heard the combos have some reliability issues but I don't know about the head, there were only a few HC reviews and noone mentioned any problems.

Re: Ashdown Peacemaker

I have a 40w Ashdown Combo, very nice. Bought it because I couldn't afford a Cornford Harlequin! Reliability was only a problem on the early manufactured models and has long been recified. Only thing to remeber is the power dial on the front never works! Details can be found here http://www.ashdownmusic.com/tech/index.asp

Also look out for Hayden these are also made by Ashdown but they are handwired they have the details of the Peacemaker on their site. Always facied one of the Petite Blondes or Essex blondes but they're quite expensive and I've never seen any secondhand. http://www.ashdownmusic.com/hayden/amplifiers/index.asp

Re: Ashdown Peacemaker

I purchased a Ashdown 40W combo for use in Holland (2003) and had problems with the on/off power switch. After that was fixed, I never had any problems with it.

You can set the volumes separately for rythym and lead which is nice and should be done by more companies (Scott_F - Here is a HINT! for a future amp)

This amp is good for R&R, R&B, and Blues; but not for metal of any sort. It does not take too well to pedals overdriving the heck out of it, but with the channels being able to be set up for lead and rythym, there really is no need for that.

If I could get one wired for 120V, Yes I would buy another one.

Re: Ashdown Peacemaker

cheers mates.

Not at all good for any kind of metal? I heard some people compare it to a jcm 800 but I guess that depends on your definition of metal. I'm not looking for any super saturated chugga-chugga but some Maiden style tones would be nice. I guess I'll have to try it out for myself.

Re: Ashdown Peacemaker

I just tried it and wow  it kicked ass. Both the clean and the dirty channel, especially with an overdrive pedal. I'm buying it next week, my first real tube amp  yay.

I'm kind of confused about the foot switches though. If I understand correctly, there's one for switching between the master volumes and channels, and one for accesing the "third" channel. I could probably do without the extra channel but I'd like the master/channel switching one. Do you know if any footswitch will do or does it have to be an original ashdown peacemaker switch? I have an old marshall pedal for switching channels and FX loop laying around.

Re: Ashdown Peacemaker

Glad you liked it Leveller. Think any footswich will do it but I have 2 Ashdown switches, 1 came with the amp and bought another so I could access the 3rd channel

Enjoy!
