Ashdown Superfly

Ok so I got one of these bass amps and I wanted to know; what can I expect this beast to sound like really? How loud is it? Will it keep up with a boss GT8 into a Crate Power Block? :earl:

Re: Ashdown Superfly

Hey, I love mine... if you run both channels at 4ohms i'll give ya 500 watts... loads more than the GT and power block! Even if you run 2 x 8ohm cabs it will push about 350watts. It's a great sounding amp, MUCH better than our bands bass players Mag 500! (I'm a guitarist, just got me a bass rig 'coz I always wanted one really). I found out last weekend that i can put my electro through it too, and with all the presets I can get some great sounds... loud... without much feedback!! I hope you enjoy it like I do mine. All the best.

Re: Ashdown Superfly

I heard those have reliability issues. I almost bought one for my back-up amp though, all those programmable options are sweet... if it works right anyway. I've had a few Ashdown pedals.. they SUCK! I've also had an Ashdown MAG 210 combo and I currently have the Ashdown MAG 300 Head with one of their 15" cabs for my "home practice" set-up. The amps are incredible, ESPECIALLY for the money.

Therefore I am split on whether or not I like Ashdown the company...

At any rate, I've heard the Superfly can acheive ANY sound you are looking for (digitally of course, so don't expect a whole lot of warmth for tube "emulation"). Let me know how you like yours though, I may still consider buying one.

Re: Ashdown Superfly

They can't be all that bad, Mark King takes these on the road when he's travelling light... and yes they are the 250 watt x 2 version. I must admit that I have heard that there have been problems with early ones and 60cycle power supply, but Ashdown will honour the warranty anyway. My mate is the guitar/bass dept manager in a LARGE U.K store and we compared the SF to various amps... though NOT the TOP flight stuff, but the quality of sounds was at least as good as the ABM series Ashdowns and Trace gear that was 4 x the cost of the SF. When I asked him would he buy one, his answer.... I already have!

Re: Ashdown Superfly

Well i have to gig it next saturday, so yeah ill let you guys know how it goes. I will be playing a rickenbocker from the late 70s in natural clear coat(maple) through a digitech overdrive pedal.
