Atavachron solo

Re: Atavachron solo

I need new Holdy cds. Wardencliff Tower and Sixteen men of train are awesome. Atavachron is early AH which is very cool too..he's the best.

Try emusic.com, it's where I filled out my collection. I've seen him 4 times and met him as well. Wonderful person, humble, self-effacing and jaw dropping scary on his instrument. what an imagination and sense of harmonic movement.

Re: Atavachron solo

Wow, I haven't heard this in a long time. My cassette got eaten and I never replaced.... He is so amazing, the most free player I have ever heard.

Re: Atavachron solo

Ive seen Holdsworth live twice...talk about a complete original- this guy is it. Everyone is amazed by his solos- ever try his chords? OW! They hurt! I have a bood called 'Reaching for the Uncommon Chord' which has transcriptions of his songs. The solos are easy compared to the rhythms...and I can't even begin to play those solos..

Re: Atavachron solo

i've seen him twice as well ... once he opened for chick corea's elektrik band and played synthaxe ... that was a pretty happenin night indeed ... i also saw him open for dimeola ... AH's synthaxe rig had taken a hit in shipping so he had to play a borrowed guitar and amp ... plus his drummer had gotten the flu, so danny gottlieb from dimeola's band sat in with him ... couldve been a trainwreck, but was off the hook in terms of 3 musicians just goin for it ...

AH is touring this spring and i hope to see him in annapolis .. he's coltrane for guitarists

Re: Atavachron solo

I'm fairly new to Holdsworth, and I haven't heard this track - is this the man himself or you playing?

Any of you guys want to recommend some essential Holdsworth listening?

Re: Atavachron solo

Absolutely...my favorite Holdsworth CD is 'Road Games'...to hear how he sounds in a band, I recommend the self-titled 'UK' CD.

But, really...all Holdsworth is absolutely awesome..

yeah, even bad holdsworth is still good .. i do not recommend the synthaxe stuff as an entry point .. it is an aquired taste after you get your ears wrqapped around what he does ...

i like his playing on IOU alot, but the vocals don't do it for me

there is no reason not to start with 16 men of tain and all night wrong especially if they are easiest to find

enjoy
