Nice...how do you like that Studio? I've been looking at getting one of these for quite a while now, and as soon as I see one pop up on Ebay with the right look and price, I'll probably get it.

I like it a great deal and it is one of my main gigging guitars. It has loads of sustain and the bridge pup is awesome. Because of the double cutaway it does make it easier when you are up at the high end. If you are used to slim gibson necks then you will like this one as the neck is easy to play. Even if you are used to Fender necks the transition is very easy. I can play country, blues or even on the neck pup some nice jazz stuff as well with this guitar. If you get one from e-bay I don't think you will be disappointed with it because they are so well constructed and well put together. You may have to do some minor adjustment to suit your own action/playing but that is more personal preference. If you can get a quilted maple top then I'll be extremely envious!! I think typical prices would be in the region of $600-$800 and if you see any of them get them. Also if you do not want to go e-bay then check out the guys at the Hamer Forum as they often sell them there and a lot of them are reputable guys.

I like the clean way in which the knobs are layed out, but is that switch as awkward to use as it looks? Just seems to be in an odd position?

Not as awkward as you may think - once you have got used to where it is then it really is not too much of a problem. Typical 3 way switch, I would not mind it on the top horn (LPs etc) but I don't think it would fit there and would probably look out of place. BTW - it is 2V & 1T.

So where are the other Hamer owners? come on guys don't be shy!!

Lew,

If I may so that is a lovely looking Super Pro - very tasty. Is this the one where you have changed the neck pup to a Seth Lover or the bridge pup to an Antiquity or did you change them to '59B? I can't honestly remember what you did but please refresh my memory.

I take it that you are keeping this one as it would be a shame to get rid of it. By the way I am thinking about changing the pups on mine in the not too distant future but will probably wait as I have other things to do.

Hi Norman, Yeah that Monoco is my baby. I changed the neck pickup from a Custom to a double cream Seth Lover...it has an unsoldered nickel cover I can remove anytime I want to show it off! I love that guitar...but the one I sold was just as nice. I just didn't need two and I wanted another old Tele more. Thanks! Lew

Lew,
actually, I like that guitar a lot - the neck is perfect for me, the setup is excellent, it sounds terrific, plays like a dream, and I liked it so much I bought that GoldTop ... as much as I try to pull out different guitars, though, I end up gravitating to my strat with APS-II's most of the time ... another thing is that in order to do the pickups justice, I really need a space where I can crank that Hamer :)

and Lew, thanks again for being one of the ones who turned lots of us on to Hamers

Norm, Lew & Curly..NICE PICS!!!

I'll try to get a shot my Sunburst Archtop on here this weekend. It's in the Wall of Fame batch, on the Duncan site.

I've seen that ax...it's a beaut! Of my solid body Hamers, that was the nicest. Mine was just like yours!

You are welcome. I still think USA made Hamers like yours, Norman's and Jeff's are the best value out there. $800 or so (used) for a first rate US made guitar with flame like that? Get real! Get a Hamer... :)

Re: Attention Hamer Guitar Owners - Pics

Thanks Lew. It is a beauty. Here it is again, (next to the hot tub :laugh2: ) Unfortunately the attachment manager wouldn't accept a larger image.

Re: Attention Hamer Guitar Owners - Pics

I think one thing to consider is how one vibes with a guitar. The neck, playability, tone, all come into play. Hamers are amazing quality!! however, I was never able to vibe with one....just didn't fit or work for me. I never felt inspired to play when I owned a few. That being said, the Hamer Mirage I owned had a gorgeous tone!!!!! Not sure why I brought this up....but I wish I was able to connect with a Hamer because they are one of the best made guitars on the planet and expecially when you consider the price. I had a Studio mahogany but it had a very narrow tone.....like it was all mids or something. I tried the JB and BBQ and still no luck....but I bet the maple top on some of the models would open up the tone along with a different pickup. I still think one of these days I'll own another Hamer because they are too good to pass up.

that's been my problem with my Les Paul ... it's as if I feel a little self-conscious when I play one ... the Hamers are a little friendlier for me, but I admit it's my own problem :)
