Mr. Falbo,

I have a 24.75" scale pine telecaster with maple neck, rosewood board, "cut" Tele 3 Saddle Bridge with brass saddles, that I want to convert to TeleGibness. Played acoustically, it's one of the loudest solid bodies I have ever played and is a lot louder than most semi hollows I have played. It has a big bottom end with full midrange and surprisingly for an electric has a clear transparent top end that does not veer towards brightness. It's also super light at 4.5 pounds.

Years ago I had a Bartolini TXE that I loved, which is the 1CTA with an active buffer preamp and a whole boatload of gain compared to a passive. You are one of the few people that has written about the old (pre PBF/ZBS) Bartolini pickups on the boards over the years so I wanted to ask for your opinions. For this particular guitar, the neck humbucker will primarily be used for jazz and fingerstyle with the articulation, dynamic range and string seperation being the most important features. The bridge needs to be a good all purpose low to medium output humbucker for playing blues, rock, and fusion. Initially I was considering the Bartolini 1CTA with a SD PATB 78, but after reading some of your posts here and elsewhere it seems like the V92C-B and V94-D might be a good way to go. I just wasn't sure about the V92C-B vs the 1CTA and how the PATB compares to the V94-D.

Best to you and thank you in advance for your help,

Chris

V92C-B and V94-D are a great combo for what you're describing. If you need the neck pickup to be even brighter then try to find a V92C-N. It's pretty clean and lower output. Sadly I have not had the chance to try the PBF or ZBS and there is a chance there is something in there that would work really well for you, but I wouldn't know.

Frank,

Thank you. Can you comment on the PATB '78 sound and if there is a stock or custom shop PATB model that can be used in the application I described above?

Best,

Chris
