Hey, I know your Ibanez "custom" S-series is very similar to mine and made about the same time. What'd you think about those Dimarzios that came with it? And what did you end up putting in your guitar and how do they sound?

Re: attn: tone4days

hey buds - sorry,i never saw this thread - next time PM me if you have a direct question - i'd be happy to help any bro with a Q ...

i always thought that guitar sounded good, but not great, for what i wanted with those stock pickups ... it was always a little too shrill in the highs with the bridge and a little too mushy in the bass with the neck ... the splits in 2 & 4 were OK, but never had a really convincing 'quack' to me ...

i put a '59 in the neck (4-wire) and a duck in the middle, and a C5 in the bridge .. it made the guitar sound, to my ears, as good as its always felt in my hands ... the soundman (who is a stellar guitarist too) at the first gig i played it with after the pup swap was blown away ... he couldnt believe i was playing straight into my fender deluxe 90 (solid state - 1x12") with no effects ...

the only mistake i made was forgetting to order the C5 trem spaced :yell: ... no sonic problems to my ears, just a cosmetic thing ...

and i think i'd prefer a VR instead of the duck because i notice a volume drop as i bend strings away from the duck's tiny pole pieces ... but other than that, i think i am done searching with that guitar ...

... unless i do a mag swap in the C5 to try it as a custom custom someday ;)

hope this helps and isnt too late
cheers

ps - thanks for the bump, rainmaker
