Audix i5 Marshall 2203

Re: Audix i5 Marshall 2203

Sounds greatto me! I need to pick up an i5... the top end on those things are SWEET.

Was that just the i5? I really need to grab one.

Also, the right channel is a bit louder than the left.

Re: Audix i5 Marshall 2203

The top end is indeed pretty sweet for guitar. I ended up having to roll off some of the low end...seems to give a lot more bottom than the SM57.

Yessir, that was i5 only...stuck in on one speaker for one side, than just scooted it over to another for the other.

Right channel louder? That's OK, my left ear's bigger, I must have been attempting to compensate ;)

Dude, everytime I hear your tone and the way you play, it has Slayer written all over it. Sweet clip and nice playing man!

Re: Audix i5 Marshall 2203

Yeah, I'm definitely going to get one now. The top end on that thing is just so ******n SWEET and open that it's insane. Seems to be more open and forgiving than a 57, and less directional. There were some comparisons by Andy Sneap between the two in the same place... I'll have to give it a listen when I get my monitors next week and decide what I really like best.

How much low end were you rolling off? I usually put an HPF at 70hz or so on dirty guitars, just because anything lower can get out of hand, but did you go higher?

Have you tried tracking both sides with the same tone? I find that or quadtracking sounds best, but that also could explain the volume difference. It should be easy enough to check in your DAW the relative level of each and have them match up with a few fader adjustments.

I'll take a listen to the updated mix when I get home from work. :(

Re: Audix i5 Marshall 2203

can you post a kind of STANDARD position where i could USe to put my (for a future acquisition) microfone on my 4x12 cabinet!?!?!

Re: Audix i5 Marshall 2203

There is no "standard" position. It's just whatever sounds best. It will vary from cabinet to cabinet, based on your amp, room, guitar, pre, DAW, monitors, ears, hands, and even different speakers of the same model can sound different.
