What do you think - looks too good for a '54?

looks authentic to me, but it sure doesn't show as much wear as some that were played a lot
I'd say he needs a little more feedback before selling a vintage strat for $45, 000 though.
a couple things ...
it looks like it has one "short skirt" knob, and two later type knobs
the intonation looks a little off to me
interesting piece of history, though ... the body looks like a 2 piece to me. I saved some of the pics for reference, since I'm doing a '54 type ash strat - well, up to a point.
when I think of early strats, I think of the one that D!cky Betts gave to Eddie Shaver, and Eddie played the crap out of that thing!

Hmm looks ok from here, the electronics looks right, would say that it is a real one.
And the neck say TG Tadeo Gomez.
The last toneknob looks replaced though.

Well as for the wear i'd say it has been played but not beat. It is a 2 piece ash body, the neck looks correct as do the tuners and the round string tree, the knobs look original (except the 2nd tone knob), from what I can see the trem looks correct, what I can see of the body routing and the wiring look correct...BUT if that is a 54 strat it has a non original trem cover on it...in 54 (and only in 54) the holes in thte trem cover were round, that changed in 55...small point but thats my take on it...at a glance I would guess it's the real deal...but this guys does need more feedback before he trys to sell something like that!!!

At best the auction is a misrepresentation of the guitar. What I find especially troubling is near the end of the description "THIS FINE 1954 Fender Stratocaster IS WORTH AT LEAST $45 K USD "
I don't care what you have for sale, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
No related to the auction listed here- but I think that we are going to see a lot of people getting burned purchasing very expensive "vintage" guitars. How do the Brits say it about investments? "Safe as houses"

Anyone seriously considering the guitar could probably care less about his personal assessment of the guitar's value. Big deal, he's just hyping his guitar.
Buying vintage Fenders on eBay is very hi-risk, IMHO. That strat may be the real deal. It might be a partsocaster. Easily done, and plenty of guys scour ebay looking for vintage parts. This sellers' feedback doesn't indicate that. (I have seen some some really obvious parts gatherers on eBay, along with their partsocasters for auction). I wouldn't consider the guitar without a hands-on evaluation. It could be a complete fake (although I get the feeling it isn't). Much easier to fake an old Fender than a Gibson. A good closeup of the neck pocket would go a long way in determining if the body is at least real. '54s had a different shape to the cut on the side of the pocket, which distinguishes it from other years. I have never seen a RI or clone that got it right on that detail.

Surprising that no-one has bid on it as yet? I am very suspicious of the guitar as I just don't believe that a guitar that is 50 years old would be in that good a condition. In any event if I was to ever think about buying this or a similar vintage guitar I would get an expert to check it out like George Gruhn, who would then very easily tell it is a fake.
As for the seller he has only been on e-bay since August of last year and I take his feedback with a pinch of salt. Also interesting to note that he has got a 1960 strat which is in mint condition for $24,900 and no bids either?
