Avatar 2x12 cab

Anyone have or had an Avatar cab? How did you like it, or not like it?

I ordered this Avatar 2x12 vertical cab from GC used. It should be here next week. Not sure what its loaded with, wasn't in the description, but I'm going to try my new Swamp Thangs in it. The Carvin enclosure I have them in now is not giving me what I want. I'm thinking/hoping the Avatar will be a little beefier sounding.

To be honest I've never seen an Avatar cab like that. Maybe it's an older model.?

You could also install some large rubber feet and run it horizontal, which would surely result in a beefier tone.
I bet it's loaded with celestion t75s. Might be even better with one of each. (swamp and t75 turned horizontal)

I'm actually wanting to run this vertically. My OR15 head will sit on top.

It could have t75's. I've read that many came from Avatar with V30's, but there are many choices from them. Plus, I'm sure many were shipped empty and loaded with whatever.

I have 2 Avatar cabs but they are conventional tolex covered with fabric grill cloth. Cant speak to that one, looks older, but the current Avatar cabs are good cabinets. I have two of the traditional models.

They have the big dust cap so they're not v30s.
For running vertical the swamps will likely be your best bet then, since they have rounder highs and more fullness.

Do your swamps have a gasket installed on their back-lip? You might need to make some gaskets if they don't.

They have front and rear gaskets.

That's great.

It's always bugged me that Celestion have only factory-thick gaskets for rear-loading.
They do include the thin gaskets but you have to put them on yourself for front-loading.

Definitely a first gen Avatar design. Judging by the dust protectors the speakers might be HM75s as Avatar loaded many of their cabs with WGS speakers.

I've had a couple different Avatars over the years, and what they sound like depends entirely on the model. They actually have a quite diverse lineup. So it's really hard to say. There really isn't an "Avatar" tone.

True indeed.

My beastly 212 8ohm sig-cab with a pair of 16ohm k100 is probably my favorite 212 cab ever, and I even have mesas to compare also.
It's also makes such an amazing companion to any v30 cab.

I have an Avatar 2 x12 and it is, in my limited experience, an awesome cab. I ran my JCM800, Egnater Tweaker both with it when I had them and run my Splawn QR with it and all sound good.

Arrived today. Got the Swamp Thangs in and roaring. I'll try and get some clips up soon.



Oh, and it came loaded with Celestion G12S-50's, which didn't sound all that bad really.

Small footprint, looks very cool, and no doubt sounds both fuller and more defined at the same time now with the swamps.
I do remember those s50 speakers. They are OK at low volume but IMO they really slough-out when you feed them too much.

You could vote for the head & 2x12 cab in my poll over here. It's a nice looking setup.

I'm kinda amazed at how overwhelmingly the head and 2x12 beat out everything else in my poll.
