Axe-FX test clip # 2

OK, I've just been working with creating amp models from scratch more or less just focusing on that rather than all the other FX junk (of which there is plenty of). I'm not much of an FX guy anyway but I bought this thing for the amp possibilities, not the FX. Anyway, this is an amp preset I put together to use with my strats. I patched in a Redwirez close mic'd Marshall 1960A impulse file which uses a SM57 on the cap edge for the impulse capture. No eq on anything other than the amp model eq - I did slap a little delay on the solo thing just to fill it in a little. The rhythm track and the solo are using the same preset which cleans up nice when you roll the volume back on the guitar. I'm just recording the short little clips to listen to after I create an amp model so I can listen to it in context of drums etc and tweak it here and there. I was too lazy to do bass on this. Guitar on this is an alder strat with an old set of SSL1's.

I gotta say, this may be the best investment I've made in a long time.

suounds good

best thing to do is to concentrate on playing and not get too caught up in teh rest

glad u like modeler stuff, I do too, my main rig is line 6 amp and I record only with line 6

Nice tones and nice playing. I am looking at an Axe FX Ultra just for the effects. I have a pair of tube pre-amps that do everything I need for tones.

Love how you open it up as it progresses. Reminds me a great deal of my good friend Nate, phrases in a very similar way...

Nice!

I build amps in my axe-fx also, it is addicting. Lately I've played around alot with the engl model using mesa EQ's and messing with the transformers and cap values. I've got a crunch sound that combines the best of engl, mesa mark, and mesa recto. It's just incredible what the axe can do.

Binnerscot, we all bought the axe initially for the fx.... once you hear it (and feel it) you will be amazed. It is light years beyond any other modeler, mostly because individual components are modeled rather than the amps. It really feels like a tube amp (and I have lots of tube amps). I replaced a very high-end rack system with it, as did most other dedicated users. It can do damn near anything if you are patient enough.

STOP! I can't afford one! :smash:

That is really cool you can switch out components.

Re: Axe-FX test clip # 2

I thought the axe was rediculous at first, $2k for the ultra... but I've unloaded all kinds of amp and processing gear since I got the axe-fx, and pretty much paid for it that way. (Ok, not totally, but it was a huge chunk). It's amazing what I was able to find in closets and drawers! Just for fun, you should go to the fractal forum. But beware, you may get assimilated.

On the upside, if you get one you will lose all amp GAS.

On the downside, it re-infects guitar GAS in odd ways...

I would have never thought about a Gretsch for example. I can't play rockabilly to save my life and I never had a rootsy amp. But one night my wife saw Brian Setzer on a video and said "that's a cool-looking guitar, what is that?". And with the axe I have a rootsy amp whenever I want one.... oh the pain. :smash:

There is always someone much older who'd be willing to pay the price. How low will you go for tone?? :D
