Bad Cat amps...whos heard these things?!?

I heard a salesman at a shop yesterday going sick through a bad cat amp on some cheap strat copy, and this thing sounded absolutely amazing!

It was a purple head with a purple 2x12 horizontal cab. And the price was very high, like between $5000-$6000 for the head alone (australian, which probably translates into about $3000 US for the head).

Which is pretty darn expensive, but it sounded amazing!

I've heard the Bad Cat amps a couple of times, and wasn't that impressed with them.

Check out Komet Amps, especially the Constellation, for true high end guitar amp madness!

Oh i know ive checked out the komet amps, and i just wish that i could afford one!

That would be my ultimate!

*sigh*

Bat Cat amps were a business started by one of the guys who used to work for the British company Matchless. Many of their amps are essentially identical with a few minor component and wiring differences.

You're right, for medium-gain jangly "brit-pop" tones they can't be beaten! (Think Oasis, Stereophonics, Supergrass etc.) Also good for blues and light rock. Expensive, and perhaps one just for the boutique connoisseur.

I would agree with that ... I prefer hi gain settings most of the time. The Bad Cats aren't very versatile for the $$ tho; I prefer Rivera when it comes to that b/c it does the clean thing as well as the hi gain thing equally well.

i looove bad cat amps.

if anyone wants to here, imo, one of the best new guitar tones, check out a band called rooney. they use bad cat amps......the crunch is sick.

I tried the Hot Cat 15. Wasn't that impressed with the tone. Way too hot, too thick, impossible to calm it down. Went with the Bogner Metropolis instead (I checked out a number of other amps, like Matchless, Bad Cat, Dr. Z, etc.).

I'm in the hunt for a new amp and noticed a clip here: http://www.proguitar.de/AudioDemo/CompareAmps/CompareAmps.html

You gotta know what you're getting into when laying out huge dollars for amps like Matchless and Badcat. Those circuits are
based off of Vox AC-30's OR an RCA Bassman preamp mated to
a Class A (debateable) EL-34 power section. So, if the tones you like are Vox, Bassman, JTM 45 type tones, you'll be more than pleased. I think the true classics to come from those companies
will be the Matchless DC-30 and Chieftain, and the Badcat
Hotcat 30 and 100. I have a Chieftain 2-12 combo and understand what makes it much better than other amps that claim to have the same kinda tone. On the other hand, I like
a wide variety of tones at my disposal, and the Matchless isn't versatile enough to cover it all. The Hotcat 30 and 100
are the fattest highgain amps you'll ever hear. The tone is literally all-encompassing.....it huge, and way tighter than I thought a Class A amp could ever be. Expensive yes, worth it?
YES!

I agree about the Komet stuff. The Komet 60 and Constellation
are friggin amazing! Worth the money? Yes, if you have it.

This thread reminds me.....I need to go crank my Chieftain with a strat tonight.
