Re: Bad Cat Trem Cat Arrives...
I think I'm deaf.
Crickets everywhere tonight.
Big booming bass, top end that chimes with out a doubt.
It's basically an AC30 when you get right down to it. Then you add a ton of different tone options, then add verb and trem and you've got a very very nice amp. Similar in a lot of ways to the Handwired Vox AC30 reissue. But more versatile.
Spent all night with the PRS (phat cats) and the Les Paul (A2p/CC). The amp seems to gobble them both up. Not really sure which I prefer.
Then I ran the amp into the Deluxe cab that has the 8 ohm Emminence Red Fang. More mids and highs, tighter bottom. The Bad cat uses what I know are Celestion speakers and are different, and I'm pretty sure they are a Vintage 30 and a Greenback. James removes some of the doping to loosen them up a bit, like a lot of guys do. I thought using the single Red Fang and the Trem Cat in 15 watt setting gave me a very Vox AC15 type tone. I think having that alinco speaker in there definitely gives it a very defined Vox flavor. I might break down and try to run two Red Fangs in it for a while. Just to see. Very bight though in that Deluxe.
The Trem is pretty cool, reminds me of that on/off old notch trem from a long time ago if you crank it up too high. I was able to get some very nice tone like having a MicroVibe built into it. The Reverb is quite lush and useable.
Amp has a master volume set up that is defeatable, taking the entire master pot completely out of the circuit. In fact, I pretty much ran it without the master most of the night, hence my near deafness.
I got to pick my colors, so I went with maroon with the black front and the gold sparkle grill. I had already played thiis amp in a couple of different places, so I knew I liked it. Better yet, it actually sounds good in my music room. Ever had an amp that played great at the store and you couldn't dial in anything but crap when you got it home? Not this one. Sounds just as massive.
Massive is a good word. It's about 85 lbs. Heavy and more than a handful. Cheers.
I'l check back in in a few months with a more detailed opinion.
