most guitars i've played, when you turn the vol all the way down and let go of the strings theres no hum, but on mine theres hum. is this a bad ground? or maybe a ground loop? i didn't do a pro job on the soldering, its mainly a temporary put together of my guitar :p

Did you have hum before you did any changes to your guitar? If so,check that you have nice shiny puddled solder connections on your pots...Also did you make any major changes within your guitar from stock?

well, when you heard your friend's guitars, was the amp plugged into the same power outlet as the one your using now? also, as stratdeluxer said, check your soldering

well move your amp to where you buddy uses it and plug the power cord from teh amp into the one your buddy uses. you see, a power outlet can have a bad ground, and if you plug your amp into it, it doesnt get grounded properly.
