baffle in Marshal 1960A cab??

My cab is making some really loud annoying vibrating noises when I palm mute above the fifth fret on my low E. This has happened before, and I ended up putting a screw into the back of the cab into the baffle...and the noise stopped. I guess it was just loose.

But it's happening again! (months later) Would my cab be greatly affected if I just removed the baffle?

Yes. Until you have some sort of anti gravity device to keep your speakers in place and from falling to the floor. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: The baffle is the 30" x 30" piece of plywood that the speakers are mounted to!

You're probably meaning the wooden post that runs from the front to the back...right? I wouldn't do that. I'd just tighten every screw you can find including the speaker mounting screws...but don't go overboard on the tightening the speaker screws. Don't want to warp the speaker frame.

yeah, it's the small little wood post that's perpendicular to the back of the cab...sticks out from the middle of the speakers. I guess I'll try to tighten it all up again...

but if it's still making noise...will it affect the tone if I just take it out?

It's not supporting anything...I'm assuming it's there just for tone reasons.

Yes. It keeps the back from vibrating as one 30 x 30 panel and creating low grequency standing waves inside the cabinet...or something like that. Makes it behave as if it were a smaller panel. Sounds better with the post!
