balance of "hollowbody LP"

Hiho,

I'm currently drawing plans for my first selfmade axe. It should become a "hollowbody doublecut LesPaul". I wonder how much wood I can remove from the body without losing balance (headstock too heavy).
Can I completely hollow out the "wings"? Should I make the body thicker than 55 mm?
Or should I weigh the woods and start calculating (veeery bad idea)?

Any experiences/comments appreciated

Chris

Re: balance of "hollowbody LP"

what kind of wood is the body, heavy blank or no? how long is the neck ect...
the more we know the better we can answer.

chances are you can take quite a bit of wood out, there is always going to be some guess work involved

Thanks for your feedback!

I don't have the wood yet. It will be mahagony body and neck, approx 20 mm (0.8") thick maple top, rosewood fingerboard. Scale 24.75".
Rather small headstock (6 in-line mini tuners).
Body shape like an Ibanez Artist.
