Bar Magnets ..magnet strength

Has anyone magnetised or re magnetised bar magnets ? Is it possible to change the polarity of a magnet by doing this. does magnet type come into play as well when it comes to magnet strength?
 
I haven't, but I can't help but ask, why you'd want to change polarity, when all you have to do is "flip" a mag to accomplish that?

It's not a case of wanting to change polarity , what I meant was if that could happen by remagnetising it..
 
Ah, ok. I suppose if you accidently oriented the new "magnetizing" magnet, and/or coil, the wrong way, that could happen. Wait for others to chime in. I've never actually done it.
 
you cant re-magnetize ceramic as far as i know

alnico you can. and yes, you can change the polarity.
