Barbarella

This legendary guitar is finally available for sale. There were three SS guitars in the Washburn Museum/Rudy's private collection..the purple quilt top SS80 that I bought, the first production Steve Driscoll painted #1 SS100 Frankenstein glow in the dark model and the Jon O'Connor painted Barbarella, which I have lusted over since last year when I found out..(a) that it actually existed and (b) that it was built after Steve left Washburn. Actually it is his design all the electronics and Jim O'Connor painted the body thinking Steve had it all these years..not.
So these three guitars are one offs, brand new unplayed and a steal.
When I read of these guys who have like 15 EB MM EVH guitars, me having two SS80's isn't that excessive. I was offered the SS100 for $2500 cheaper than it is selling for, these guitars aren't just pretty to look at, they are incredible to play and sound even better than they look..
These are a part of history, very cool guitars..

Re: Barbarella

not 15k cool

Not for me also at $15K but it's part of true Rock and Roll history so how do you put a price something like that?? My Fender Prosonic head is the same way. It is a handbuilt one of a kind that was used on several Aerosmith recordings + on stage so what's it really worth???
I do agree that those guitars are just fantastic instruments. I own a number of the Grover Jackson era Washburn USA Chicago Customs like those and would put them solidly in the catagory with Anderson, Zion, Suhr, Grosh ect.

Re: Barbarella

My '93 Padauk N4 is extremely well built guitar as well. It is hard to believe Washburn had such a dip in QC just 2 years later.

I agree that is a very cool guitar, but not $15k cool.

Re: Barbarella

SS/Billy Idol just isn't that noteworthy to bring five digits. I love his stuff, but Stevens is a B list musician on his best days. It's no doubt a solid guitar, with a unique paint job.

I could get one off of ebay and get it painted for less than 900 probably. And it would play exactly the same. Who out there REALLY loves SS 14k???

A lot more than anything Billy Idol ever did.

What dip in QC are you speaking of?? I have 6 Chicago Custom Washburn USA guitars that were built between 1995-2000 and everyone of them is absolute perfection. Grover left in mid 97 so there may have been a drop then but my 4 95 MG's the 99 WM-4 and the 2000 Stealth were all pretty much flawless.

Re: Barbarella

It is well know that the mid '90's N models were not the same as the earlier ones. I have seen a few '95-'00 that were absolutely hit or miss.

I can't speak of any other Washburns (I only have the N models).

I have a '93 Padauk, and a '06 N6 that are perfect.

Re: Barbarella

Considering how Jane Fonda totally ****ed up and by many is considered a washed up and washed out Hollywood spoiled brat I would not take that guitar if it was given to me !

Memories of how she turned in a note passed to her by an American fighter pilot POW to the prison warden make me want to punch her lights out when she went to north Vietnam in protest of that war .

I was not for that war either but I would not hurt a fellow American like she did , what a looooooooooooser .

Sorry for the comment but I felt it was necessary I had a lot of buddies who served in that war .

I always thought SS did his best work when he used a Hamer, and I wouldn't pay 15k for one of those either.

Snopes is your friend. I am not a Fonda fan at all, but I am not about spreading false stories. That is an urban legend. She went to Vietnam and met some POWs and gladly spread communist lies, but according to the guys she met, she never turned anybody in. She was a stupid traitor for being over there and siding with the enemy, and that was more than bad enough, but that was the extent of what she did.

Re: Barbarella

Wow! Cool strat! :lmao: j/k

I'm sure it's a killer guitar, but I don't care for the graphics. No doubt the quality is outstanding but I have a personal gripe against ANY guitar costing 5 digits -- regardless of provenance.
