Bare Knuckle Mother's Milk equivalent

As in the title: does Seymour Duncan make something that can be considered an equivalent of those pickups?
Or, if not SD, any other company (but I don't have much money, or I'd just buy the BK)

What I'm after is that kinda hollow, woody (I can almost feel the wood grains), bright sound

Based on specs, descriptions, and most tellingly the grey fiber bases, the middle and neck are Fender CS69 knockoffs.

The bridge is an overwound addition to the set. And pretty much the only thing BKP changed.

So, the cheaper/easier to get equivalent is probably:
1x Fender CS Texas Special, bridge... or 1x Fat '50s if you want something slightly milder
2x Fender CS 69's, mid and neck

RWRP middle if you want hum cancellation. Fender CS 69's are otherwise identical/positionless.

If you can't find em separately for cheap, get a used full CS69 set, and you'd probably be quite happy too. Possibly even happier than with the BKPs.

That sure sounds like the Duncan Antiquity Surfer pickup to me, but that isn't a cheaper alternative. For that bright, bell like sound the SSL-1 is a great choice. They aren't too expensive and they sound great. I have the bridge version in my only Strat. It's awesome.

Kinda pointless, they pretty much claim they're faithful copies of well-known Fender pups that are excellent and can be had for a lot less money

They get a pretty good rep.
The ssl1's are a bit fuller and thicker than the typical Fender offerings.

yes and no. it says they use "larger diameter alnico rods" which would suggest .195" magnets rather than the .187" that came later and would be correct for a late 60's strat pup.


id assume they sound a bit different than the surfers which are pretty much like a '62 strat pup

If we believed that every time someone claimed to make a pickup with 'vintage Fender tone' it must sound the same as every other pickup claiming the same thing, where would we be?

Agree. I thought the BK felt like underwound SSL1s.
