viva_360 said:Hi i want to ask is it possible to tune in standard E tuning using extra light gauge string sets like a 42 - 9?
I am really want to know as i got a great deal on a Yamaha Drop 6 guitar ..
thanks!
the guy who invented fire said:The Yamaha Drop 6 guitars are not true Bartones and do not have a full Bari scale (30 inches) nor are then even that newer Bari scale (27-28 inches) the Drop 6 stuff from Yamaha is around 26.5 give or take and you could tune it to standard but even with 9-42's on it it's gonna feel a bit tight.
Jeroen said:There is actually a company that makes 27" solidbody and semi-hollow jazzguitars intended for standard E-tuning. The idea is the added scale length should add clarity, definition and 'tightness'. I can't remember the brand though, but their website is bookmarked on my PC at home. If I don't forget, I'll post a link this evening (which for me is in a few hours, it's 16:30 now here).

Zerberus said:"Full Bari Scale" is something new to me... traditionally, 30" is considered a short scale bass and anything between 25.5 and 29.9999999999999999 is "baritone"
As far as the tension: I used 11-52 on my baritone in standard tuning (27" scale) and had no problems... though mind you I play 12s on normal scale in standard...
viva_360 said:Has anyone on the board tried it?
By the way has any one tried the Yamaha RGX420s or the drop 6 version?
thanks!

the guy who invented fire said:Dano Baritones from the 50's and 60's were 30 inches (as are the reissues from the 90's...however the newest Danos and one of the Jerry Jones are 28 inch), Fender Bass VI is a 30 inch scale, the EBMM bari is 30 inches as is the OLP version of it, the new BC RICH Bari is 30 inches...sure with even larger strings you can tune them in the range of a bass but with a lighter set you can run C, B or A if you want.
Depends 100% on what´s on there now and what it´s tuned to...if the difference is large enough (which it probably will be), yesviva_360 said:Sorry i missed that one .... was reading this thread in a hurry .... at work .... Would any tuning for the trust rod be need on the neck?
1. They do, The DK 27 is a baritoneviva_360 said:Hi Zerberus which baritone do you have? I don't recall Jackson making a baritone
cheers!
jdm61 said:Hey Christian.....what kind of strings did Joe Perry use on "Back in the Saddle"? Didn't jack Bruce sometimes break out the old Fender VI back in the early Cream days? The Gibson and Epi SG short scale 4 string basses are a 30" scale ad they get down to bass tuning.
