Baritone Guitar Recommendations?

Hello all!

I was wondering if anyone had any baritone recommendations. I am not really into most of the newer style electrics, but if anyone has any that stick out, I'd love to hear about them.

What I'm looking for:
  • A baritone that I would tune to B standard.
  • A set neck or neck-thru setup
  • Something I can put some humbuckers into
  • For metal

I currently have a Guild S300-D that I'm in love with. The closest thing I found to what I'm looking for was the limited run of Baritone SG's that Gibson put out. It is looking like the best option now, but they only come in white and I am looking for something more... Unique!

Thanks in advance! I am excited to hear what you know about that I don't!

Re: Baritone Guitar Recommendations?

I'm glad I found your post. Something that I just found yesterday was some of the Agile guitars on Rondo music's website. They are Les Paul copies that are 27 inch scales. The strange this is that, it doesn't say "Baritone" on the search page. You have to click on the individual guitars, and read the info on them.

I would put the link, but we aren't supposed to put links to other manufacturers websites. Just go to Rondo Music, and search the Les Paul copies that run about $325.

Re: Baritone Guitar Recommendations?

I own an LTD VB300 that is solid. It's not really "unique"... Great guitar though.

Re: Baritone Guitar Recommendations?

I haven't tried that many out, but I have a seven string baritone (26.5") Schecter C7FR that I mostly use to play metal in B tuning.. It does it very well. It's mahogany/rosewood with a set neck. There's nothing unique abut it, though.

There's no problem linking to other manufacturers' websites, as long as it's not spam. Go ahead and put it up, if you like.

I really dig that new Squier bari Jazzmaster. But then, I'm a sucker for Antigua Burst.

You mean this one, that says Baritone? :D

A lot of times the 27" models will have "27" in the model number.

Re: Baritone Guitar Recommendations?

^^^FINALLY, a baritone guitar with actual dot inlays. I can't deal with an unmarked neck.

I would totally get one of those SG baritones, even if white wasn't my first color choice. Personally I think the all white (guitar, pickups, knobs, etc) look is pretty unique. It's just ... white.

I see someone else has already suggested what would be my next recommendation: a Buckethead sig Les Paul. I have the Buckethead Les Paul Studio. Though this model was not marketed as a baritone, when the sales guy at a local shop where I saw one mentioned it has a 27" scale, my first thought was "What a great guitar for down-tuned riffs!" I have to mention the tone. I've heard a sales guy at a local Music Go Round where they had a custom shop Jackson 7 string complain about how plinky it sounded. The Buckethead Les Paul Studio is the complete opposite - incredibly fat and chunky.

With the Buckethead Les Paul, and I would imagine the SG Baritone as well, Gibson's recipe of mahogany for the neck and body with the neck glued in, paired with hot, chunky sounding pickups is a winner a low tuned guitar.
