Re: baritone guitars

I think they're really awesome. I wish there were ones out there designed for more than just metal or hardcore music.

I think it would be badass to have a drop tuned killer rock/blues/jazz guitar. I'm content with playing in standard, but I think having a quality guitar that gets lower registers would be a blast.

Re: baritone guitars

Honestly, I never really dug em. They just don't gel with my playing style.

Re: baritone guitars

I voted "cool" even though I've never touched one. Just the idea intrigues me. I'ld like to try one some time. :)

Re: baritone guitars

there a good idea and even though i personally preffer standard guitars i think there a cool idea

Re: baritone guitars

love them, but they dont suit with the bands im in

clean chords sound huge, distorted you can render your bassist useless almost :p

dont really dig them for soloing though, just doesnt feel right with the longer scale

Re: baritone guitars

I'd like to build one of the Warmoth baritone 7-strings, but I'm a little stupid that way.

That, and if I pulled that out at a band practice, the bassist would probably smash it over my head.

Re: baritone guitars

While in the recording studio I noticed one of our tunes need some
low end bounce. I asks the bassist if he could play something more
like a root 5th thing instead of pumping 8th notes? He said if he
didn't pump the 8th notes the bottom would fall out?? So next session
he shows up with a borrowed fender 6string bass!! He hands it to me
and says `Show me what you mean' So I had the engineer hook me up
in the control room. I said where hot? O.K. roll tape and I recorded a
killer bumpdy Bump bump part. The band loved it !! the bass whent back
into its case and returned to it owner ( who sold it a week later) During
mix down the stupid engineer erased part of the track :yell: He offer
a free session to fix it. But NO WAY I was gonna go out and buy a
baritone guitar. :13:

Re: baritone guitars

I vote "WHAT" and here's why:

1- the extended scale feels very bizarre. Expect to s t r e t c h your fretting hand away from your body.

2-the loosened "rubber band" feel of the strings aren't conductive to shredding.

3-the super thick .12's they put on these to combat my #2 complaint makes these even more un-playable.

4-the lack of a high E string gives you the top end soloing range of a conventional 5 string guitar. This is horrible for shredding!

I tried several baritones, and didn't like each and every one. Seven stringers make much more sense. Aside from the wider neck, you keep the comfortable scale length, the playable sting gauge, and the ability to use the high E string whilst shredding!

Re: baritone guitars

Most 7 string's I've found have been standard 25.5 scale.

Re: baritone guitars

I have a 7 String and I HATE it. I bought it for whatever reason, and am looking to sell it. It just never fit into anything I've ever written. May as well use the money towards another amp or another 6 string.

Re: baritone guitars

What kind and how much? I could be very interested.

Re: baritone guitars

i always thought they were cool, but theres about 3 songs total id play on one

Re: baritone guitars

Ivoted cool because thay fit for a lot of people and sometimes (about half of the time) they can sound pretty good. I've even heard a few very cool tracks with baritone solos; one being a cool gritty nasty spagehtti western type tune.

Re: baritone guitars

Baritones get a bad rap for being "nu-metal" guitars. Listen to Corrosion of Conformity or Machine head sometimes and you'll here what can be done with one. A 27" baritone scale is only 1 1/2 inch longer than a start scale. Its designed to keep a tighter string tension for heavier tunings, Unless you go super deep A or B tunings.
