Baritone Tele pickups

On the advice of a Seymour Duncan employee I order a set of quarter pounder Tele pickups with a middle quarter pound strat pickup. I want this guitar to sound "COUNTRY" after reading about these pickups I'm kinda afraid that I will lose the TELE sound that I desire? Did I make a mistake if so I need suggestions for what I need? Thanks

Re: Baritone Tele pickups

You need to say more about your baritone guitar first. What woods have been used? What type of bridge? These will make a difference to how your guitar might sound compared to any other Telecaster. Then, of course, you need to state what amplification you use.

Re: Baritone Tele pickups

The body is swamp ash with a flamed maple top, gotoh tele bridge rosewood neck and fingerboard. All from Warmoth. I'll be running through Line 6 Pod HD 500 or 300 into the PA.

Re: Baritone Tele pickups

It's not going to sound as tele as a normal tele, but it's going to sound awesome! The rosewood neck is going to change the whole tone and sustain. The twang is going to be even stronger and faster, but not as short as normal ash/maple tele. How do you tune?

Re: Baritone Tele pickups

We talking chickin' pickin', Waylon, or this newer glam rock ballads with steel guitars and a fiddle style?

It's kinda like a P90 with added twang, it has a similar grind going on, and it's pretty damn punchy.

Like D BBQ said, it would sound awesome, to me. I LOVE that pickup.

Re: Baritone Tele pickups

well, if you wanted a Country sound, I'd use pickups that sound Country in a regular tele ... we're talking about a 4th or 5th lower on the low string, so I'd expect a regular set to work

that said, I'm not saying the QPs won't sound good, that's just not what I'd pick for a Country tone

just for you, here's Kid Ramos tearin' it up on a baritone:

Re: Baritone Tele pickups

I'd have gone with a Broadcaster lead and a pair of SSL-2's in the neck and mid.

I creamed my pants.

Baritone Tele+QP=ULTIMATE TEH BROOTLZ

Re: Baritone Tele pickups

I also have a set of APC's coming with the Brad Paisley neck pickup. I'm going to first see how the QP's sound then if I don't like it in the baritone I'll send them back for 2 humbuckers and keep the middle pickup and put them in my HSH tele maybe. I have Lace Chrome Domes in it right now with 2 duallies and a single there are lots of options. We'll see how it goes!!! Thanks for the help
