Bass Issues

So, I'm trying to troubleshoot a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar bass. As near as I can tell, something seems to be wrong with either the pickups or the Bass Boost thing they've got going on. No sound comes out of the bass unless you have the string pressed to the pickup before releasing it. Anyone have any ideas I should try before I go rooting around and try to rewire it? (Note, I do have experience troubleshooting and wiring guitars....just not active ones. )

Weird. Maybe a ground issue with the preamp?

Welcome to the forum.

Photographs of the wiring in your instrument's control cavity would help enormously.

On any instrument with onboard powering of active electronics, the first thing that I would check is the battery.

That was my thought as well. From what I could tell online it looks like passive pickups with an active boost so if push comes to shove you can always temporarily (or permanently) bypass the boost and run it with standard passive controls (Vol,Vol,Tone probably or even 2vol x 2tone since you have the fourth space).
