Bass: MM + J pickup config?? Help Please.

Hey,

Im currently looking at investing in a custom bass from warmoth and id really like to have a MM+J pickup configuration as its really the only kind of configuration thats lacking from my setup. My question is would this be a good combination together or would a MM pickup alone work better? I play Hard Rock/Grunge mainly but also dabble in most other genres and am looking for a configuration that is punchier and different to my current P+J setup. Also, is it possible to have both pickups passive or is this an unwise way to go? If so then how about making it Active/Passive interchangeable? Which Bassline pickups of this type would most compliment each other? All help would be much appreciated

Thanks

ive done a few basses with a mm pup and either a j or p pup, it can be great.

i always use passive pups usually with bypassable active electronics, my favorite is the stc-3m3. i run the pups into a three way switch or blend pot then to the electronics or bypass switch then electronics if you wanna go that route

i love the duncan alnico musicman pup and love the versatility i get with a series/split/parallel switch on that pup. for the jazz a vintage model or qp if you want extra juice would be good matches

Thanks very much, that sounds great. Where would i be able to get the schematics for the active bypassable set up you mentioned? Would such a set up mean that both pickups would work without a battery or would the passive set up only apply to the J?

Thanks

i dont have a schematic, i used the one they sent with the preamp and worked around that.
