Bass pickup ID help needed

Some years back I briefly fiddled around palying bass. I put a set of SD active pickups in my bass. Now The Wife would like to tinker with bass, and is wondering about the pickups. I know they are SD's, but what model? Also what function do the switches serve? I can't remember, and The Wife is curious, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there a spot on the SD site for old/discontinued pickups with info on these?

Thanks everyone!

Wow, this thread gets a lot of traffic!

ROFL... Patience, bro...

A bump within less than an hour is essentially wasted time for you and for the people that have already seen the thread but haven´t commented because they can´t help.

BTW: I assume you´ve noticed that it´s New Year´s Eve and that most people have better things to do that sit on a Guitar Forum all day.... That´s likely the other reason you haven´t gotten an answer yet.... in >a third of the world (9 timezones out of 24) , people are already totally plastered and it´s 2006.

Happy New Year

Well true dat. Seeing that I have no life, I never notice these things. Thanks!

I don't mean to be a jerk, but I could really use some help on these.

Thanks to all the knowledgeable folks here!

Re: Bass pickup ID help needed

I had a friend who had those pickups--I haven't seen those in years!

Those switches allow you to configure different combinations of EQ settings
--one of the current Duncan bass pickups (i.e. the AJJ-1 Pro-Active™ for
Jazz Bass®) is based on it, although it doesn't have the switches; according
to the site, the Duncan folks have instead "hardwired" the pickup's voicing
based on the most popular setting. I poked around the Web, but couldn't find
anything with regard to the switch settings/combination.

Thanks man!

I actually just found this in the FAQ on the Sd site Here.

I will paste the info below:

Functions of switches on old-style "Active EQ" bass pickups
We stopped making the switch pickups ("Active EQ") in the mid-'90s. We replaced them with the Pro-Active? series.
The little rocker switches on the Active EQ pickups change the sound. Switch #1 shifts the coil resonance. On a Jazz Bass? neck pickup and a P Bass? pickup, the resonance moves downward from 22 KHz to 6.4 KHz. On a Jazz Bass bridge pickup, it move downwards from 17 KHz to 4.9 KHz. The effect is to give a more focused sound with a harder attack. Switch #2 gives a broad band bass boost of 4 dB for the Jazz Bass neck and P Bass pickups, and 5 dB for the Jazz Bass bridge. The switches can be a very effective tool for changing the tonal "character" of your instrument.

I suppose I pulled a "n00b" and didn't RTFM before I asked. :baby:

At any rate, I love the flexibility of the pickups, and wish they still did it.

Thanks again for the help!

Re: Bass pickup ID help needed

I saw a set of these on Ebay not too long ago. They seem pretty rare, but those that have them probably don't plan on selling them as they sound great and are flexible.
