bass preamp with smb4a

bass preamp selection,

okie so im gonna put a preamp into this dan armstrong, but what kind should i use with the smb4a? right now theres only room for 2 pots, vol and tone, but i can route one more in for a total of 3 pots + the output jack. im not sure if different preamps are better for different kinds of music, i play mostly punk and hardcore id love to get a 'riseagainst' or 'thursday' sound out of this bass. im probably going to eventually need some wiring help too if im all tapped out after buying this preamp. please help !!

is the tone circuit added in addition to a preamp or in place of it?
