Bass/Treble Cut on same pot?

Hi all,

I have an Epi Les Paul. It sounds fantastic, but the neck pickup can get a bit dark. I heard about the PTB mod, but it uses two pots, one for the bass cut, and one for the Treble Cut.

My question is...is there a way to use a single pot to do both? I don't want to add holes or anything to alter the appearance of the guitar. But I thought it would be nice to be able to alter the tone of the two hum buckers independently.

Thanks,
Ron

The pot would need to be stacked; either dual concentric or dual ganged.

This, but yes. Basically you're asking for a modified TBX tone circuit, which uses a ganged "blend" pot with a center detent.

There are several variants of this diagram so you may want to play around with the various values to come up with a control that works the way you like. The standard TBX pot is a specialty item, a stacked 1Meg/250k pot. You can get close with a ganged 1Meg linear pot and an extra 333K fixed resistor; place the resistor across the outer terminals of one of the pots and presto, it's a 250kohm audio-taper pot. You can vary this resistor as well, giving you even more fine-tuning options.

I use a TBX tone control for the neck pickup in my Strat for the same reason. I can dial in the amp/pedal to sound full for the bridge position, then crank the TBX on the neck pickup so it sounds clear.

Thanks!

I have a TBX in my strat, but I have been searching for a TBX in a Les Paul but have turned up nothing. Maybe they don't fit?

Also what would be a good value for the bass cut? On my strat TBX, it definitely works...but it is subtle in both directions.

Thanks,
Ron

I fit my version of the tbx in my 3 pickup custom build Les Paul's. No easy fit, but it can work.
